About Us

At Hempsmith we make Hemp Clothing. Or really, we do the tie dye, printing, and embroidery on the clothing.

Our process is kind of old-fashioned. We print by hand and tie each shirt in preps for dyeing. We use a big sink as our dye house.

We’re located at The Plant in Pittsboro, NC where we have a sweet little storefront. Feel free to stop by and check it out sometime!

Our clothing combines rugged durability with sustainable style.

Perfect for everyday wear

We take pride in our subtle embroidery, vibrant dyes, and hand-printed designs.

Each garment tells a story of artistry and attention to detail.

What is hemp though?

Hemp is a plant that grows rapidly and tall, much like a weed. This means you can harvest a large amount of material from a small area of land with minimal inputs.

Industrial hemp produces a durable fiber that’s perfect for making clothing. The fabric holds up well and becomes softer over time.

There are many more benefits to hemp. To learn more, check out this blog…

Bringing hemp home

Our mission is to reintroduce hemp textiles to North Carolina.

We envision a future where local farmers grow hemp, supporting a restorative economy and a healthy planet.

Hemp has a rich history in the U.S. and was illegalized for almost 100 years.

The word 'canvas' is derived from 'cannabis' because all canvas fabric was once made of hemp.

Let's bring it back.

Our Founder

My big brother, Zafer Estill started Hempsmith in 2015. He came up with the original leaf tee design and sold a few shirts to the homies.

He had a vision of an environmental renaissance and saw a future where hemp was widely used.

He went off to Boulder, CO when I was 17 to study business. Zafer died from a heroin overdose in April of 2016 and left my family in shock. Overnight I had lost my brother and best friend.

Within that first week I remember thinking that I could take Hempsmith and continue the vision. Working with my brother every day.
